The social media post I generated in week 4 was a landline phone, targeting horror movie fans. I was particularly aiming for those who love the Scream franchise. I chose to photograph a landline because it's an instantly recognizable symbol that connects to the plot of the Scream movies. In the films, the threatening phone calls are crucial in building horror and suspense, making the landline a perfect symbol to represent that sense of fear. One of the most memorable parts of the franchise is hearing Ghostface’s voice on the other end of the phone.
To create this post, I went home last weekend to capture a picture of my family’s landline because I only have a cell phone at school. I thought that a landline was a much better representation of the original movie's feel. A cell phone wouldn’t create the same nostalgic effect because landlines were important to the plot of the early Scream films. Using a landline instantly brings back memories of those tense moments when the victim’s life depended on answering the phone.
Additionally, I chose to make the photo black and white to enhance the tense and fearful feeling important in horror films. The absence of color removes distractions and focuses more on the phone. This improves the image's impact. Similar to older movies, it adds to the creepy and mysterious vibe. This choice also reminds viewers of classic horror moments they love. It fits well with the suspenseful caption and draws the audience into the world of the Scream franchise.
